In the beginning there was only the sound...
Once upon a time, in the year 2012, The World District was just a Band.
To create music that could always be performed, a musical collective was established. Positive Messages, Musical Depth & the Unity of
The World, as we all come from this District, was our aim!
The World District Band was created by Shawn Moorhead for his Final Exam of his Studies at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam. Together with Jesse ten Cate they started working out musical ideas they had and getting a team together. We started approaching other musicians who worked with over our career to build a band.
"Out Of Many One People" the Moto of the seal on the Jamaican coat of arms,
represents a core value of the band. In our modern world most people have experienced other cultures. Though there are major differences between them the fundamentals are all the same. What we might consider good food, good music, how to love and a comfortable environment to live in may differ, we all want and need these things to survive.
Reggae music is what united us and with our unity we aimed to create a band that would have a Positive Message and also bring more Musical Depth into Reggae Music. As many of the musicians we worked with had many projects going on we thought of creating a collective so that our music wouldn't come in the way of people's personal lives.
